ANIME REVIEW: The Wallflower

Today I'm going to be reviewing Yamato Nadeshiko Shinchi Henge! Also known as The Wallflower or Pretty Girl Evolution.
I'm going to talk a little about each of the characters and then go onto the actual review, but let me say this: It was an anime my own mother wanted to see all the way through, and even cosplayed from (Twice)!

Minne Nakahara: The Instigator.
The wealthy owner of a fabulous mansion where four beautiful boys live. She makes a deal with the boys so that if they manage to turn her Niece Sunako into a lady, she'll let them live there rent free for a year! Minne is a flambouyant and cheerful woman on a quest to find love (ever since her one true love died.) She is often shown leaving the mansion in a humorous fashion with her newest boyfriend. Some of these include flying off in a giant jet, or leaving in a limo too big to turn around in the driveway. She's aboslutely hopeless at household chores but is a loving and wonderful lady.

Kyohei Takano: The leader and the Bad Boy
Kyouhei Takano grew up poor with a mother who was jealous of his beauty. He saw the way she suffered and ran away to work for a living. He is often the victim of sexual harrassment at work and gets fired because of his refusal. He seems to be the strongest out of the four boys living in Minne's mansion, and is a natural born leader. He'll do whatever it takes to get what he wants, even if it means butting heads with Suanko.

Yukinojo Toyama: The cute, sensitive one
Yuki is very easily frightened and incredibly cute! His feminine looks often wind up being the reason he's forced to cross dress to help Kyohei out of tight spots. He seems to really like Kyohei because he's tough and cool. He's good friends with all the boys and Sunako too.

Ranmaru Mori: The flirt
Ranmaru is a through and through ladies man, which often gets him into trouble. He's very flambouyant and likes pretty girls. He's seen fooling around throughout the show but he knows what he's doing when it comes to make up and pretty outfits. He's the boy's best chance at turning Sunako into a lady.

Takenaga Oda: The brains
Takenaga is easily the smartest and most down to earth of the boys. He comes from a rich traditional family but for some reason is staying with the other boys at Minne's mansion. He's the voice of reason and the calmest in times of crisis, but he gets nervous around his "not quite girlfriend" Noi.

Sunako Nakahara: The problem
Sunako's heart was broken in middle school when she confessed her feelings to the boy she liked. He responded by telling her he didn't "date ugly girls." Since then she's refused to look in a mirror for the past two years and doesn't do a darn thing to improve her appearance. She's very dark and cynical. She loves the occult and all horror films so much she has anatomical dolls and skeletons in her room, which she's even named and talks to when no one seems to understand how she feels. Sunako is so dark its comical. She "can't stand to live with creatures of light" such as the boys and gets nosebleeds whenever she sees them. This is a running gag that never gets old.

Noi Kasahara: The girly Girl
Takenaga's girlfriend, and the only girl rooting for Sunako. She's flirty and girly but she isn't afraid of arguing with Kyohei constantly. She truly believes in Sunako and wants her to succeed. Noi is also horrible at house hold chores.

The Review:
The animation is very pretty but a little oversaturated with flowers at times. However it makes a very comical transition from the typical shoujo style to very crude chibis and even stick men. Some of the "creature of light" jokes get old and it doesn't follow the manga(which is still ongoing)completely. Some parts of the show I have to make a comment on are the "Road to Womanhood" and the "Goth Goth Loli sisters". The Road to womanhood gives small tips in the middle of the show on how to be more feminine and are pretty funny, but the Goth Goth Loli sisters, while funny at first, are overused and annoying. I really liked Sunako's character, and so did my mom. My mom cosplayed both Minne Nakahara and her Niece Sunako and had a lot of fun doing so. The boy's are all pretty sweet and I think in the future when my mom cosplay's Sunako again I'll either be Kyohei or Ranmaru to match.
My whole family Highly Reccommends The Wallflower

Here's my Mom's Sunako Cosplay by the way :)
